1 Corinthians 12:17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. 19 And if they were all one member, where would the body be? 20 But now indeed there are many members, yet one body.
The Holy Spirit used the analogy of our physical bodies to help us understand the operation of the church body. When any part of the human body is not working, the body is unhealthy and cannot operate to its fullest extent. Scripture makes it clear that each part of the church body is necessary and has been entrusted with a place of ministry by the Lord. Sadly, many people say they are members of a certain church yet they do little, or nothing, to contribute to the church body.
One of my great blessings, as a pastor, is watching the church body work together for the glory of God. Although, as the pastor I may be among the most visible, but without the entire body working together, my calling would be very frustrating. On many occasions I remind our church family that, “teamwork makes the dream work,” and truly that is the way that God designed it.
